Subject: Fw: Blue Yamuna Team members reached Nagapattinum and have requested for more supplies.

Thanks, Raj and others for your wishes....

....I got a call this morning (Sat. Jan 15) at 5:38 AM and picked up our small radio/Alarm clock and started to bang it to stop...and then realized it was the phone ringing...and there was Diplu saying "...are you sleeping..."  "..well go ahead.." I replied...Diplu started then ".....we arrived at 5 AM (IST) at Nagapattinam, South India and went to the committee for offering the water purification tablets, when the committee suggested that we should go to the next village to the south, Kenchakeppam?, where 700 people died.  They drink water from the water well and they desperately need to have germ-free, bacteria free water.  We went to that village, met with the village committee president, showed them what we brought, and demonstrated the purification method with 2 tablets from bottle 1, and subsequent polishing method using tablets from the yellow-capped bottle no. 2.  There were two engineers there who work in Malayasia but have families here in this village.  They took over the task of purification of this water, and will distribute 25 liters of drinking water per family they said.  The supplies are not enough. Could you send 1000 more tablets, both bottle 1 and 2?".

I replied "..still trying to pronounce properly, Kenchakeppam, right?, Okay, Diplu, I'll try to send that as quickly as possible to Mr. Mootha's address in Chennai".

Diplu said thereafter "talk to Justine".. Justine Baruch from Denver Colorado, Ken Brakken's daughter, Hollie's friend, who is just 23, has a sincere desire to help and came forward. I told her on the phone to be very careful about her drinking water and any food that she takes...She said that she has a portable water pump, which makes clean and safe drinking water, and she is carrying that with her.  "Great! I said and keep up the good spirit..."

Anyway, I'm running behind because of some of the pre-commitments this morning which I'm about to finish and then run to REI or some other store to buy the supplies and arrange shipping to Mr. Mootha.

Mr. Mootha:  I'll send a note later today with the status.  Thanks for the two e-mails, I saw them this morning.

Subijoy.

MESSAGE:

Dear Perry:

Your initiative has lead us to this great platform to be able to extend the assistance that we are so eager and keen to provide.  As the old saying goes..."Men proposes God disposes...God proposes and it happens"  The second part is my interpretation of events that lend itself to a happening.  Anyway,  I'm sure Diplu and Justine will find a very reliable and convenient support and path to extend the assistance to provide safe drinking water to about 50 families per day, for about 7 days...that's our goal.

I'll be checking to see if we can send more to cover for a longer period.  The main issue is to locate a friend who is traveling to India within a week to send the supplies along.  Fedexing has two problems- shipping cost plus custom/etc. clearance issues.

Anyway, please communicate all possible details whenever you all get a chance.

Mr. Mootha/Diplu et al.:  I have set up a messageboard for the Tsunami. Please check the website:

http://yamuna.sdutta.tripod.com/msgboard.htm

frequently to get updated on the latest information/direction/messages.

Any one of you can send a message as Follows:

Date/Time (IST or GMT):

TO:

PRIORITY:  Exremely Urgent, Urgent, Somewhat Urgent, Relevant

FROM:   Provide your e-mail address and Mobile and landline numbers

MESSAGE:  Avoid large (>400 words) messages

COMMENTS: Short comments

Send that to me in the above format, and I’ll upload the messages received  between 5:30 PM – 10:00 AM IST within 2-3 hrs; and ones received  between 10:01 AM – 5:29 PM IST within 6-8 hrs .

Clear and redundant (repeatitive) communications are always helpful in these sort of emergency relief operations. So, ensure that you have the message trail tagged below your reply and always reply to all concerning this Tsunami relief.

Hello Everyone:

I am very glad the connections have been made very well.

I needed to introduce everyone to start with, however, everyone is now on the same page.

Mr. Raj Mootha is very good friend of mine and very active business leader in Chennai. Also, very actively involved in community activities on volunteer basis. He is our liaison for Solar Water Energy Projects in Chennai.

Mr. Subijoy Dutta is very well renowned environmentalists, he works for US EPA and also provides consulting environmental services to India. He is very deeply involved in Blue Yamuna Project.

Please go ahead and offer whatever assistance you may to each other, as all of us are looking forward to provide humanitarian help to Tsunami relief activities.

Let me know, if I can be of any assistance.

Thanks,

Dear Mootha Saab:

They will be carrying a very small package containing :

  1. US FDA approved Water Purification Tablets (22 small bottles, fits in 6"H x 9"W x 12" L Box)which makes the water safe and drinkable and rids that off of any germs or bacteria.  These supply is adequate to provide 50 families (avg. 4/family) with drinking water only for about 6-7 days.  However, the trained volunteers have to prepare the water and give them initially to ensure the quality and safety.
  2. A few 2-liter bottles (empty) and possibly some dry food for their own consumption.

Hope this clarifies the concern...and 20 minutes should be enough time for them two make the transfer of train.

Diplu should call Mr. Mootha and discuss the issue.

Dear Dutta,

Hello!

This is Mootha.

What exactly is the purpose of your relef work.

Are you carrying any Food, Clothes, Medicine for the relief work. The reason why I am asking this is as you will have to change trains at Villipuram to go Nagapattinum and the time available will be 20 minutes at Villipuram and you will have to cross platforms to get into the other train. With a lot of baggage it will be difficult and we need to plan it accordingly.

Your reply will help me plan every thing smoothly for you.

Regards,

Mootha.
